Radiant Radiology provides Breast Ultrasound as part of our dedicated women’s imaging services, including at our Women’s Imaging Centre in Pimpama. Breast ultrasound is a safe, radiation-free examination that uses sound waves to produce detailed images of breast tissue.
Breast ultrasound is commonly requested to assess a lump or area of concern, to further evaluate a finding from a mammogram, or to examine breast tissue in younger patients where ultrasound is often the first imaging test. It is frequently performed alongside mammography rather than as a replacement for it.
Have a referral? Book your breast ultrasound at your nearest Radiant Radiology clinic.
Your doctor may refer you for a breast ultrasound to:
Assess a breast lump or localised area of concern found by you or your doctor.
Further evaluate a finding from a screening or diagnostic mammogram.
Examine breast tissue where ultrasound is the preferred first test, such as in younger patients.
Assess breast changes during pregnancy or breastfeeding, when radiation-free imaging is preferred.
Complement mammography in patients with dense breast tissue, where requested by your doctor.
Your breast ultrasound is performed by our experienced sonographers in a private, comfortable room, with your dignity and comfort as our priority throughout.
You will lie on an examination table, and a warm gel is applied to the skin. A small handheld transducer is gently moved over the breast to capture real-time images. The examination is painless and typically takes around 30 minutes.
Our radiologists review the images and provide a detailed report to your referring doctor promptly. If further assessment is recommended, our team coordinates this with your doctor, see our Breast Diagnostic Assessment page for how this works.
